The gate that defines you: 70% of your programming
One of the 13 bodies that program your Human Design chart — on the Personality and the Design side.
In Human Design, the Sun marks the main gate of your chart: the central theme you are here to express, on both your Personality (conscious) and your Design (unconscious) side.
Have you ever felt there is one thing that, whatever you do, always comes back? A theme repeating across your jobs, your relationships, your crises. In Human Design that theme has an exact address: the gate of your Sun.
Fact sheet
What does this planet program in Human Design?
The Sun is the source of most of the programming you receive at birth. In the Human Design calculation, the Sun’s position at your exact birth moment activates one of the 64 gates of the bodygraph — and one of its 6 lines — on the Personality side. That same position 88 days earlier (when the Sun was 88 degrees back along its path) activates the Design Sun gate. They are the two most important activations of your whole chart: they define your life theme, your profile (the two lines of the Personality and Design Suns form your profile) and most of your Incarnation Cross, which is built from the Sun and Earth gates on both sides. If you could read only one gate of your aurik code, it would be this one.
What does it bring on the Personality side?
The Personality Sun is conscious: it is what you recognise when you talk about yourself. Its gate describes the theme you identify with, the way you want to be seen and the contribution you feel you are here to make. That is why, when someone reads their conscious Sun, they almost always nod: "yes, that is me". It is the part of your design you can observe most easily — and the one you can most over-act when you are not aligned with your strategy and authority.
And on the Design side?
The Design Sun is unconscious: your friends, partner and children live it before you do. It describes your body’s nature, the impulse that works even if you never register it. Many people take years to recognise their Design Sun, and when they do they usually understand why they did things "that weren’t like them". It is not a contradiction of the conscious Sun: it is the other half of the same theme, held from the body.
What does it look like day to day?
A person with the Sun in Gate 1 needs to create something of their own to feel alive; with the Sun in Gate 13 they become the keeper of everyone’s stories; with the Sun in Gate 51 they live through shocks that initiate them. The Sun’s theme shows up in career choices, in what you cannot stop doing on a Sunday afternoon and in what hurts most when it goes unvalued. Reading your Sun gate in the Library is the first step; seeing how it crosses your type, your authority and your beliefs is what the Life Manual does.
How do you train it?
You do not train it: you recognise it. The task with the Sun is not to strive to be what its gate says, but to stop striving to be something else. Read the gate, read the line, and notice where in your life you are already living that theme without having named it.
Do you recognise yourself?
Tick the ones that ring true. Three or more and this energy is probably yours.
