North Node
Where your life heads after 40
One of the 13 bodies that program your Human Design chart — on the Personality and the Design side.
In Human Design, the North Node describes the environment and perspective of the second half of your life: the landscape you move into after the Uranus opposition.
Around forty, almost everyone feels the scenery changed. It is not that you changed: the landscape did. In Human Design that new landscape is called the North Node.
Fact sheet
What does this planet program in Human Design?
The Nodes program the environment: not the content of your life but its context, the stage where it plays out. They come as a pair: the South Node runs the first half of life and the North Node the second, with the changing of the guard around the Uranus opposition (38–42). Each activates one gate on the Personality side and one on the Design side, and they are always opposite gates: North Node and South Node sit 180 degrees apart, like Sun and Earth. The North Node tells you what will matter, whom you will attract and which questions will organise you in maturity.
What does it bring on the Personality side?
The Personality North Node is the conscious perspective of your second half: the kind of environment you start choosing, the topics that suddenly interest you, what you could not see before and now cannot stop seeing. It usually feels like "at last I understand what all the earlier part was for".
And on the Design side?
The Design North Node is the same perspective held from the body: the physical places where your body performs best after forty, the rhythm and atmosphere that sustain it. It is subtler and slower than the Personality one, and is mostly recognised in hindsight.
What does it look like day to day?
Someone with the North Node in Gate 46 begins, in maturity, to live life through the body and the pleasure of being; with the North Node in Gate 19 they become sensitive to the community’s needs; with the North Node in Gate 33 they need to withdraw to tell what they lived. If you are over forty, you are probably already living it: the North Node gate gives it a name.
How do you train it?
It is not forced: it is accompanied. If you have not reached the Uranus opposition yet, read your North Node as a preview; if you have passed it, read it as permission to stop living in the South Node’s landscape.
Do you recognise yourself?
Tick the ones that ring true. Three or more and this energy is probably yours.
