Earth
The exact counterweight of your Sun
One of the 13 bodies that program your Human Design chart — on the Personality and the Design side.
In Human Design, the Earth always sits in the gate opposite the Sun and describes what anchors you: the concrete ground that balances your life theme.
Every fire needs ground. In Human Design that ground has a name and an address: the gate of your Earth, always 180 degrees from your Sun.
Fact sheet
What does this planet program in Human Design?
The Earth is the second most important activation in your chart, and inseparable from the Sun: the calculation places it in the exactly opposite gate, on both sides of the chart. While the Sun programs the theme you radiate, the Earth programs the ground where that theme has to land. Together they define the Incarnation Cross — the purpose you live out across your whole life — and together they give the direction of the central axis of your aurik code. Reading your Earth without reading your Sun is reading half a sentence.
What does it bring on the Personality side?
The Personality Earth is conscious. It speaks of what you need in order to function: the kind of stability, relationship or structure that lets you express your Sun without spilling over. Many people find in their conscious Earth the answer to "why, when this is missing, does nothing else work?".
And on the Design side?
The Design Earth is unconscious: it is the anchoring your body seeks on its own. You see it in the places where you feel well without knowing why, in the routines you keep without deciding to and in the kind of company that brings you back to calm. When someone tells you "I don’t know why, but I relax around you", they are usually describing your Design Earth.
What does it look like day to day?
A Sun in Gate 7 (the role of leadership) has the Earth in Gate 13 (listening to stories): to lead, it first needs to listen. A Sun in Gate 60 (accepting limits) has the Earth in Gate 56 (telling the experience): its limit becomes a story. Every Sun–Earth pair tells a relationship like that. Find yours in the Library: your Earth gate is the one the navigator shows opposite your Sun.
How do you train it?
Name your ground. Read your Earth gate and ask which part of that energy is already in your routine and which part you are leaving to chance. The Sun expresses itself alone; the Earth has to be tended.
Do you recognise yourself?
Tick the ones that ring true. Three or more and this energy is probably yours.
