El dictamen. Lo receptivo trae un logro elevado y prospera a través de la constancia de una yegua. Si el noble quiere ir adelante, se extravía; si sigue, encuentra guía. Al suroeste conviene ganar amigos; al noreste, perderlos. La quietud firme trae ventura.

La imagen. La condición de la tierra es la entrega receptiva. Así el noble, de carácter amplio, sostiene el mundo exterior.

El 2 es el reverso exacto del 1: seis líneas partidas, tierra sobre tierra, yin puro. El calendario lo pone en el décimo mes, cuando la luz ya se retiró del todo y el campo queda en reposo aparente. Pero el reposo de la tierra no es vacío: es donde la semilla se guarda y se transforma.

El animal del hexagrama no es una vaca quieta, es una yegua, y la elección importa. La yegua tiene la fuerza del caballo y la docilidad de la tierra: recorre distancias enormes sin necesitar comandar la marcha. Esa es la clase de perseverancia que el 2 pide, y por eso el Dictamen aclara que quien intenta ir adelante se pierde y quien sigue encuentra el camino. No es una moral de la obediencia; es una descripción del tipo de eficacia que funciona en este momento.

El suroeste y el noreste son las direcciones del mapa clásico: la primera es el terreno del trabajo compartido, la segunda la del retiro y la prueba solitaria. La Imagen no prescribe hacer menos, prescribe ensanchar: sostener el mundo exterior como la tierra sostiene todo lo que crece encima, sin quejarse del peso y sin elegir qué recibir.

The Judgment. The Receptive works far-reaching success, furthering through the perseverance of a mare. If the noble person tries to lead, they go astray; if they follow, they find guidance. In the southwest it is good to win friends; in the northeast, to leave them. Steady quiet brings good fortune.

The Image. The condition of the earth is receptive devotion. Thus the noble person, broad of character, carries the outer world.

Hexagram 2 is the exact reverse of 1: six broken lines, earth over earth, pure yin. The calendar puts it in the tenth month, when light has fully withdrawn and the fields lie in apparent rest. But the rest of the earth is not emptiness: it is where seed is kept and transformed.

The animal of this hexagram is not a still cow but a mare, and the choice matters. The mare has the strength of the horse and the yielding of the earth: she covers enormous distances without needing to command the march. That is the kind of perseverance 2 asks for, which is why the Judgment says that whoever tries to lead gets lost and whoever follows finds the road. It is not a morality of obedience; it is a description of the kind of effectiveness that works right now.

Southwest and northeast are directions on the classical map: the first is the ground of shared work, the second of retreat and solitary testing. The Image prescribes not doing less but widening: carrying the outer world the way earth carries everything that grows on it, without complaining about the weight and without choosing what to receive.

El Dictamen agrega la instrucción más práctica del hexagrama: si intentás ir adelante te perdés, y si seguís encontrás guía. Traducido: no fuerces la dirección, elegí bien a qué seguís. Un proyecto, una persona, un ritmo, un compromiso. La calidad de lo que sostenés define la calidad de tu año.

El error típico del 2 tiene dos caras. Una es pelear contra el momento: agarrar el timón por ansiedad, inventar una iniciativa para sentir que hacés algo, y terminar disperso. La otra es entregarse sin criterio: decir que sí a todo, cargar con lo que no te toca y llamarlo generosidad hasta que el cuerpo pasa la factura.

El tercer camino es la yegua: fuerza plena puesta al servicio de una dirección que elegiste vos. Recibí sin volverte un depósito. Fijate una sola vez, con toda honestidad, a qué le estás poniendo el lomo, y si la respuesta te convence, sostenelo sin apuro y sin quejarte. Si no te convence, el problema no es que estés sosteniendo: es qué.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 2 suele aparecer cuando:

• Estás sosteniendo algo que empezó otro: una casa, un equipo, un proyecto, una etapa familiar.
• Sentís que no avanzás y en realidad estás en el trabajo invisible de dar forma.
• Te toca decir que sí o que no a cargar con algo que no iniciaste.
• Querés forzar una dirección y todo se pone cuesta arriba.

You drew 2 and you were probably looking for something to do. The answer is uncomfortable because it does not come as action: today your power is not in starting but in sustaining, receiving and giving shape to something that began elsewhere.

Careful about reading it as resignation. Pure yin does not mean passivity: it means an unlimited capacity to hold. The earth does not compete with the seed or argue with its direction, and yet without earth there is nothing. In everyday terms: you are the one holding the house together while another studies, keeping the team running while another presents, absorbing the hard month without breaking anything. That is not a secondary role. It is the role that makes the rest possible.

The Judgment adds the most practical instruction in the hexagram: if you try to lead you get lost, and if you follow you find guidance. Translated: do not force the direction, choose well what you follow. A project, a person, a rhythm, a commitment. The quality of what you carry defines the quality of your year.

The typical mistake with 2 has two faces. One is fighting the moment: grabbing the wheel out of anxiety, inventing an initiative just to feel useful, ending up scattered. The other is surrendering without criteria: saying yes to everything, carrying what is not yours and calling it generosity until the body sends the bill.

The third way is the mare: full strength placed in service of a direction you chose. Receive without becoming a storage unit. Look once, with complete honesty, at what you are putting your back into, and if the answer convinces you, hold it without hurry and without complaint. If it does not convince you, the problem is not that you are carrying: it is what.

In practice, hexagram 2 tends to come up when:

• You are holding something someone else started: a home, a team, a project, a family stage.
• You feel you are not advancing when in fact you are doing the invisible work of shaping.
• You have to say yes or no to carrying something you did not start.
• You want to force a direction and everything turns uphill.

El pedido no es alarmarse, es registrar. Anotalo, nombralo, hablalo temprano.    The line of the early sign. Something minimal has changed and it does not hurt yet: an odd tone in a message, a number starting to slip, a new tiredness. Hoarfrost is not ice, but it announces it. The ask is not alarm, it is registering. Write it down, name it, raise it early. Almost every large problem in this hexagram began as a detail someone chose not to look at because it was still small. Looking in time costs a conversation; looking late costs a whole winter.

   La mejor línea del hexagrama y una de las más raras del libro: describe a alguien que funciona bien sin tener que empujar. Recto es la intención sin doblez, cuadrado es la forma confiable, grande es la capacidad de contener. Si hacés lo tuyo con esa calidad, los resultados llegan sin que vayas a buscarlos. En concreto: no negocies tu palabra, hacé el trabajo completo aunque nadie mire y dejá de calcular el retorno de cada gesto. Esta línea premia exactamente eso.

   The best line of the hexagram and one of the rarest in the book: it describes someone who works well without having to push. Straight is intention without a bend, square is reliable form, great is the capacity to hold. If you do your part with that quality, results arrive without your chasing them. Concretely: do not negotiate your word, do the whole job even when nobody is watching, and stop calculating the return on every gesture. This line rewards precisely that.

La línea habla del que hace la parte difícil dentro de un proyecto ajeno. El consejo es antiguo y sigue siendo bueno: terminá lo que empezó otro y hacelo impecable. El reconocimiento de esta posición no llega por anunciarse, llega porque queda a la vista que sin vos no se cerraba.

   You know more than you show, and for now it is better kept that way. This is not deceit: it is not claiming credit while the work is still under way. The line speaks of the person doing the hard part inside someone else's project. The advice is ancient and still good: finish what another began and finish it impeccably. Recognition in this position does not come from announcing yourself, it comes because it becomes obvious that without you it would not have closed.

Si el momento es este, aceptá el trato: pasar sin brillar y sin dañarte es un resultado perfectamente bueno.

   Close the sack and keep the energy in. This line appears when the setting is no place to expose yourself: a hostile meeting, a group in crisis, a family in dispute. It is neither cowardice nor indifference; it is deliberate prudence. The text is completely honest about the price: you will get no praise either. Nobody thanks you for restraint. If this is the moment, accept the deal: passing through without shining and without harm is a perfectly good outcome.

En la vida práctica es la persona que en una discusión no levanta la voz y a la que todos terminan escuchando. Si te salió esta línea, la elegancia es estrategia: bajá el volumen, sostené el criterio y dejá que el lugar te lo den los otros.

   Yellow was the colour of the centre and of the earth, and the garment goes underneath, not on top. The image is exact: distinction without display. You have something valuable and you do not need to exhibit it for it to register. In practice this is the person who never raises their voice in an argument and whom everyone ends up listening to. If you drew this line, elegance is strategy: lower the volume, hold your judgement, and let others give you the place.

   El yin llegó al extremo y quiere ser yang: la tierra pretende mandar como el cielo. Es la línea del choque frontal, y el detalle importa porque en la lucha se lastiman los dos. En concreto: el que sostuvo mucho tiempo en silencio estalla y quiere imponerse de golpe, o dos personas que se necesitan se enfrentan por quién manda. Si te salió esta línea, la salida no es ganar la pelea. Es reconocer cuánto se aguantó sin decir nada y empezar a decirlo antes del estallido.

   Yin has reached its extreme and wants to be yang: earth claims to rule like heaven. This is the line of head-on collision, and the detail matters because both sides bleed. Concretely: the one who held everything in silence for too long erupts and tries to impose themselves all at once, or two people who need each other fight over who is in charge. If you drew this line, the way out is not winning the argument. It is recognising how much went unsaid, and starting to say it before the eruption.
