El dictamen. La dificultad inicial trae un logro elevado y prospera a través de la constancia. No conviene emprender nada todavía; conviene nombrar ayudantes.

La imagen. Nubes y trueno: la imagen de la dificultad inicial. Así el noble desenreda y ordena los hilos.

El 3 es el primer hexagrama después del cielo y la tierra, y no por casualidad: cuando lo creativo y lo receptivo se encuentran, lo que nace primero es el desorden. La figura junta el trueno abajo con el agua arriba, es decir el movimiento encerrado bajo el peligro. En la naturaleza es la tormenta que todavía no descargó: hay nubes, hay ruido, hay carga, y todavía no llueve.

El nombre chino, Zhūn, dibuja un brote que empuja para atravesar la costra de la tierra. Ese es el retrato entero del hexagrama: la dificultad no es una señal de que el proyecto esté mal, es la resistencia normal del principio. Nacer cuesta. El clásico lo pone en el momento en que la semilla todavía no tiene forma reconocible.

Por eso el Dictamen dice dos cosas que suenan contradictorias y no lo son: elevado logro y no emprender nada todavía. El potencial es enorme y por eso mismo conviene no dispersarlo en la primera dirección que aparezca. La Imagen prescribe desenredar los hilos porque en un principio caótico la tarea no es avanzar: es ordenar. Y agrega lo que casi nadie quiere escuchar al arrancar algo propio: nombrar ayudantes. Solo, esto no sale.

The Judgment. Difficulty at the Beginning works far-reaching success, prospering through steadfastness. Nothing should be undertaken yet; it furthers to appoint helpers.

The Image. Clouds and thunder: the image of Difficulty at the Beginning. Thus the noble person untangles and sorts the threads.

Hexagram 3 is the first after heaven and earth, and not by chance: when the creative and the receptive meet, what is born first is disorder. The figure sets thunder below and water above, movement locked under danger. In nature it is the storm that has not broken yet: there are clouds, there is noise, there is charge, and no rain.

The Chinese name, Zhūn, pictures a sprout pushing through the crust of the soil. That is the whole portrait of the hexagram: difficulty is not a sign that the project is wrong, it is the normal resistance of the beginning. Being born is hard work. The classic places it at the moment when the seed has no recognisable shape yet.

That is why the Judgment says two things that sound contradictory and are not: far-reaching success and undertake nothing yet. The potential is enormous, and for that very reason it should not be scattered in the first direction that appears. The Image prescribes untangling the threads because in a chaotic beginning the task is not to advance but to sort. And it adds what almost nobody wants to hear when starting something of their own: appoint helpers. Alone, this does not work.

La primera noticia del hexagrama es un alivio: la dificultad que estás viviendo no es un mal presagio, es exactamente lo que se siente cuando algo nace.

La segunda noticia es una instrucción, y es incómoda: no es momento de avanzar, es momento de ordenar. En un principio todo pide atención al mismo tiempo y todo parece urgente. El hexagrama dice que si te lanzás en cualquier dirección con esa carga encima, la energía se va a gastar en corregir. Primero se separan los hilos: qué es esencial, qué es ruido, qué depende de vos, qué no.

El error típico del 3 es confundir la fricción del comienzo con una señal de que el camino está equivocado. Muchos abandonan justo acá, en el punto donde el trabajo todavía no rinde nada visible. El error opuesto es tapar el caos con actividad: mil tareas, ninguna terminada, la ilusión de avance.

Hay un detalle del Dictamen que casi nadie aplica y que cambia el resultado: nombrar ayudantes. No es delegar por comodidad. Es admitir que un comienzo genuino necesita más manos, más criterios y más aguante del que tenés vos solo. Buscá socio, mentor, contador, terapeuta, amigo que sepa del tema. La soledad en esta etapa no es heroísmo, es lo que hace que el brote no llegue a la superficie.

El tercer camino del 3 no es empujar más fuerte ni soltar: es ordenar y acompañarte. Elegí una sola dirección de las cinco posibles, ponele estructura, conseguí ayuda concreta y dale tiempo. La tormenta descarga sola cuando la carga terminó de juntarse.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 3 suele aparecer cuando:

• Empezaste algo hace poco y todo cuesta el doble de lo que esperabas.
• Tenés muchas posibilidades abiertas y ninguna definida.
• Estás por abandonar algo nuevo justo cuando todavía no dio ningún resultado.
• Venís haciendo solo o sola un arranque que necesita más manos.

You drew 3 and something of yours is starting: a new job, a move, a two-month-old relationship, a venture, a chapter that has no name yet. And it is costing you. The first news of the hexagram is a relief: the difficulty you are living through is not a bad omen, it is exactly what being born feels like.

The second news is an instruction, and an uncomfortable one: this is not the moment to advance, it is the moment to sort. At a beginning everything demands attention at once and everything seems urgent. The hexagram says that if you launch in any direction with that load on your back, your energy will be spent correcting. First the threads are separated: what is essential, what is noise, what depends on you, what does not.

The typical mistake with 3 is confusing the friction of the beginning with a sign that the road is wrong. Many people quit right here, at the point where the work still yields nothing visible. The opposite mistake is covering the chaos with activity: a thousand tasks, none finished, the illusion of progress.

There is a detail in the Judgment almost nobody applies and it changes the outcome: appoint helpers. This is not delegating out of convenience. It is admitting that a genuine beginning needs more hands, more judgement and more endurance than you have alone. Find a partner, a mentor, an accountant, a therapist, a friend who knows the field. Solitude at this stage is not heroism, it is what keeps the sprout from reaching the surface.

The third way of hexagram 3 is neither pushing harder nor letting go: it is sorting and getting company. Choose one direction out of the five possible, give it structure, get concrete help, and give it time. The storm breaks on its own once the charge has finished gathering.

In practice, hexagram 3 tends to come up when:

• You started something recently and everything costs twice what you expected.
• You have many possibilities open and none defined.
• You are about to quit something new right when it has produced no result yet.
• You have been handling a beginning alone that needs more hands.

   El primer paso se traba. Es la línea del que quiere salir y encuentra un obstáculo antes de moverse: el permiso que no llega, el dinero que falta, la duda que paraliza. El consejo del clásico es doble y hay que tomarlo entero: quedate en tu posición y conseguí gente. Perseverar acá no significa insistir contra la pared, significa no cambiar de rumbo por el primer freno. Y ayudantes significa personas de carne y hueso, no motivación. Empezá por una llamada.

   The first step jams. This is the line of someone who wants to set out and hits an obstacle before moving: the permit that does not come, the money that is missing, the doubt that freezes. The classic advice is double and must be taken whole: hold your position and get people. Persevering here does not mean pushing against a wall, it means not changing course at the first brake.    Te llega una oferta de ayuda y no sabés si aceptarla. La línea dice que quien se acerca no viene a robarte nada, pero también que no tenés por qué decir que sí ahora. Los diez años son una manera antigua de decir: esperá a que las condiciones sean tuyas. En concreto, es el inversor apurado, el socio entusiasta, la persona que aparece justo cuando estás vulnerable. No lo rechaces con desconfianza; simplemente no firmes todavía.

   An offer of help arrives and you do not know whether to take it. The line says whoever approaches is not there to rob you, and also that you have no obligation to say yes now. The ten years are an old way of saying: wait until the terms are yours. Concretely, this is the hurried investor, the enthusiastic partner, the person who shows up exactly when you are vulnerable. Do not reject them out of suspicion; simply do not sign yet.

   Vas detrás de algo atractivo en un terreno que no conocés y sin nadie que lo conozca. La línea es la advertencia más clara del hexagrama: la presa existe, pero la falta de guía convierte la búsqueda en extravío. En la vida diaria es meterse en un rubro nuevo sin asesoramiento, invertir en algo que no entendés, mudarte a una ciudad sin un solo contacto. Desistir acá no es fracasar. Es volver, conseguir a alguien que conozca el bosque y entrar después.

   You are chasing something attractive on ground you do not know, with nobody who knows it. This line is the clearest warning of the hexagram: the prey exists, but the lack of a guide turns the search into getting lost. In daily life it is entering a new field with no advice, investing in what you do not understand, moving to a city without a single contact. Desisting here is not failing. It is going back, finding someone who knows the forest, and entering afterwards.

4. LíneaLine 4 — Buscar la uniónStriving for union

   El carro y el caballo se separan. Buscá la unión. Ir trae ventura; todo obra para bien.Horse and wagon part. Strive for union. To go brings good fortune; everything acts to further.

   La misma imagen de la línea 2 y la respuesta contraria, porque cambió el momento. Ahora sí: aceptá la ayuda, dale el sí al que se acercó, hacé la alianza. La línea aclara además que no tiene nada de humillante pedir. Si venís arreglándotelas solo y apareció alguien capaz de acompañarte, este es el punto donde decir que sí desbloquea todo lo demás. En concreto: contestá ese mensaje, aceptá la reunión, proponé la sociedad.

   The same image as line 2 and the opposite answer, because the moment has changed. Now yes: accept the help, say yes to whoever approached, make the alliance. The line also makes clear that there is nothing humiliating about asking. If you have been managing alone and someone capable of walking with you has appeared, this is the point where saying yes unblocks everything else. Concretely: answer that message, take the meeting, propose the partnership.

   Dificultades en el favor que se reparte. Perseverar en lo pequeño trae ventura; perseverar en lo grande trae desgracia.Difficulties in dispensing favour. Persevering in small things brings good fortune; persevering in great things brings misfortune.

   Tenés algo bueno para dar y no logra llegar: la propuesta no se entiende, la generosidad se malinterpreta, el trabajo no encuentra público. La línea da una medida exacta: en pequeño funciona, en grande no. Bajá la escala. Un cliente en vez de una campaña, una conversación en vez de una reunión general, un capítulo en vez del libro entero. La influencia se recupera de a poco y desde abajo. Insistir a lo grande en este punto rompe lo que ya tenías.

   You have something good to give and it is not landing: the proposal is misunderstood, the generosity is misread, the work finds no audience. The line gives an exact measure: it works small, it fails large. Lower the scale. One client instead of a campaign, one conversation instead of a general meeting, one chapter instead of the whole book. Influence comes back gradually and from below. Insisting on the grand version at this point breaks what you already had.

   La línea más dura del hexagrama: el arranque no prosperó y llegó el momento de llorarlo. No hay consejo de acción porque no hay acción que sirva; lo que hay es duelo. En concreto, es el proyecto que cerró, la relación que no llegó a formarse, la mudanza que salió mal. Lo único que el I Ching pide acá es no seguir tirando del carro que ya se soltó. Soltá, llorá lo que haya que llorar y guardá la experiencia: el próximo comienzo va a costar menos.

   The hardest line of the hexagram: the beginning did not take, and the moment has come to grieve it. There is no advice for action because no action helps; what there is is mourning. Concretely, it is the project that closed, the relationship that never formed, the move that went wrong. All the I Ching asks here is that you stop pulling a wagon that has already come loose. Let go, cry what needs crying, and keep the experience: the next beginning will cost you less.
