El dictamen. El aumento. Es propicio emprender algo. Es propicio cruzar las grandes aguas.
La imagen. Viento y trueno: la imagen del aumento. Así la persona noble, cuando ve algo bueno, lo imita; y cuando descubre una falla en sí misma, la corrige.
El 42 es trueno abajo y viento arriba, y es el hexagrama espejo del 41. Allá lo de abajo cedía para levantar lo de arriba; acá la línea fuerte baja desde arriba hacia el fondo. Lo alto se achica para que la base se agrande, que es la única manera de que un crecimiento aguante peso.
Los dos trigramas se potencian entre sí: el trueno despierta y el viento reparte. Nada de lo que despierta abajo se queda quieto; el viento lo lleva lejos. Por eso la tradición ubica al 42 en primavera, la estación en que un movimiento chico se propaga solo y todo empieza a moverse al mismo tiempo.
La Imagen es la parte extraña y la más honesta. Frente a un hexagrama de abundancia, el consejo no es acumular: es imitar rápido lo bueno que ves y corregir rápido lo que anda mal en vos. Es el único aumento que no se puede perder, porque no está en el depósito sino en el carácter. Y por eso el Dictamen se anima a lo grande: en este momento conviene emprender y conviene cruzar las grandes aguas, la fórmula clásica para una empresa riesgosa que vale la pena.
The Judgment. Increase. It is favourable to undertake something. It is favourable to cross the great water.
The Image. Wind and thunder: the image of Increase. Thus the noble person imitates what is good on sight, and corrects a fault the moment it is found.
Hexagram 42 is thunder below and wind above, and it is the mirror of 41. There the low gave way to lift the high; here the strong line comes down from above to the bottom. The high shrinks so the base can grow, which is the only way a growth spurt ever carries weight.
The two trigrams amplify each other: thunder wakes things up and wind spreads them. Nothing that stirs below stays put; the wind carries it far. That is why tradition places 42 in spring, the season when a small movement propagates on its own and everything starts moving at once.
The Image is the strange part, and the most honest. Faced with a hexagram of abundance, the advice is not to hoard: it is to copy quickly whatever good you see, and to correct quickly whatever is off in you. That is the only increase nobody can take, because it sits in character rather than in a store room. And so the Judgment dares to be big: this is the moment to undertake something, and to cross the great water — the classical formula for a risky venture worth taking.

Sacaste el 42 y algo está creciendo: entró plata, apareció una oportunidad, se sumó gente, volvieron las ganas. La lectura es simple y hay que decirla sin adornos: este es un momento de aumento real, y los momentos de aumento tienen fecha de vencimiento.
En lo concreto se ve así. Un negocio que empezó a tirar; un cargo nuevo; una relación que pasó de tibia a intensa en tres semanas; un cuerpo que después de mucho tiempo responde. En todos esos casos el viento ya está soplando: no hace falta que empujes. Lo que hace falta es que decidas hacia dónde.
El error típico con el 42 tiene dos caras. La primera es dispersar: como todo funciona, decís que sí a todo, abrís cinco frentes y al mes ninguno tiene fondo. La segunda es confundir la ola con el barco: creer que el crecimiento es mérito permanente y dejar de hacer lo que lo produjo. El hexagrama avisa desde la estructura misma: la línea fuerte bajó a la base. Si la base no se refuerza mientras hay viento, cuando el viento pare no queda nada abajo.
El tercer camino es el que la Imagen susurra: usá el excedente para arreglar los cimientos y para corregirte. Poné el sobrante en lo que sostiene —deuda, salud, equipo, sistema, ahorro— y aprovechá que estás fuerte para cambiar la costumbre que te cuesta cambiar cuando estás flojo. Es mucho más fácil dejar algo o pedir perdón desde el aumento que desde la escasez. Y sí: es momento de cruzar las grandes aguas. Elegí UNA agua, no cinco.
En lo práctico, el hexagrama 42 suele aparecer cuando:
- Todo empezó a funcionar a la vez y no sabés dónde poner el foco.
- Llegó plata, ayuda o una oportunidad que no venías esperando.
- Un vínculo creció rápido y querés saber si conviene acompañar el ritmo.
- Tenés excedente por primera vez en mucho tiempo y estás por decidir qué hacés con él.
You drew 42 and something is growing: money came in, an opportunity appeared, people joined, the appetite came back. The reading is simple and worth saying without ornament: this is a real increase, and increases have an expiry date.
Concretely it looks like this. A business that started to pull; a new role; a relationship that went from lukewarm to intense in three weeks; a body that finally responds after a long time. In all of those the wind is already blowing: you do not need to push. What you need is to decide where.
The typical mistake with 42 has two faces. The first is scattering: since everything works, you say yes to everything, open five fronts and a month later none of them has any depth. The second is confusing the wave with the boat: treating the growth as permanent merit and quietly stopping whatever produced it. The hexagram warns you from its own structure: the strong line came down to the base. If the base is not reinforced while the wind blows, there is nothing underneath when the wind stops.
The third way is what the Image whispers: spend the surplus on foundations and on correcting yourself. Put the extra into what holds you up — debt, health, team, systems, savings — and use being strong to change the habit you can never change while weak. It is far easier to quit something, or to apologise, from increase than from scarcity. And yes: it is the moment to cross the great water. Pick ONE water, not five.
In practice, hexagram 42 tends to come up when:
- Everything started working at once and you cannot decide where to focus.
- Money, help or an opportunity arrived that you were not expecting.
- A relationship grew fast and you want to know whether to match the pace.
- You have a surplus for the first time in a long while and you are about to decide what to do with it.

LíneaLine 1 (abajo de todothe bottom line) — La obra grandeThe great undertaking
Es propicio realizar obras grandes. Fortuna elevada; ningún reproche.It is favourable to carry out great works. High good fortune; no fault.
Estás abajo de todo y sin embargo el hexagrama te empuja a lo grande. La razón es la estructura: el apoyo viene de arriba, así que lo que emprendas ahora no depende solo de tu fuerza. En lo concreto: si tenías un proyecto guardado por sentir que no te correspondía por edad, por puesto o por experiencia, este es el momento de sacarlo. La única condición es que sea grande de verdad; una obra chica desperdicia el respaldo que hoy tenés.
You are at the very bottom and yet the hexagram pushes you toward something big. The reason is structural: the support comes from above, so what you start now does not rest on your strength alone. Concretely: if you have been sitting on a project because it felt above your age, your title or your experience, this is when you take it out. The only condition is that it be genuinely big; a small undertaking wastes the backing you currently have.

LíneaLine 2 — El aumento indiscutibleThe undeniable increase
Alguien lo aumenta de verdad; ni diez pares de tortugas podrían contradecirlo. La perseverancia constante trae fortuna. El rey lo presenta ante lo divino.Someone truly increases him; not even ten pairs of tortoises could contradict it. Constant perseverance brings good fortune. The king presents him before the divine.
Lo que llega ahora no se discute ni se merece: llega. Es la misma frase de las tortugas que aparece en el 41, y acá significa reconocimiento además de recurso —alguien te nombra, te presenta, te pone en un lugar visible—. En lo concreto: no lo minimices por pudor ni lo infles por orgullo. Recibilo, agradecelo y seguí haciendo exactamente lo que venías haciendo. La constancia es lo único que la línea pide a cambio.
What arrives now is neither arguable nor earned: it arrives. It is the same tortoise phrase that appears in 41, and here it means recognition as well as resource — someone names you, introduces you, puts you somewhere visible. Concretely: do not shrink it out of modesty or inflate it out of pride. Take it, thank them, and go on doing exactly what you were doing. Constancy is the only thing the line asks in return.

El aumento llega envuelto en un problema: una crisis que te deja el puesto, un cliente que aparece porque otro falló, una herencia que llega con un duelo. La línea no te pide culpa; te pide dos cosas: quedarte en el medio, sin aprovechar de más, y hacer todo a la vista, con sello, sin arreglos por debajo. En lo concreto: si te beneficiaste de algo que le salió mal a otro, decilo y actuá transparente. Así el beneficio queda limpio.
The increase arrives wrapped in a problem: a crisis that hands you the position, a client who appears because another supplier failed, an inheritance that comes with a death. The line does not ask for guilt; it asks two things: stay in the middle, without milking it, and do everything in plain sight, sealed, with no arrangements under the table. Concretely: if you benefited from someone else's bad turn, say so and act transparently. That is what keeps the gain clean.

Sos el intermediario: el que traduce entre arriba y abajo, entre dos áreas, entre dos personas que no se hablan. La línea dice que te van a escuchar, y que tu utilidad hoy es mover algo grande de lugar —una mudanza, una reestructuración, un cambio de rumbo—. En lo concreto: no tomes partido por ninguna de las dos puntas. Tu poder acá viene justamente de estar en el medio y de que ambos lados confíen en lo que contás.
You are the go-between: the one who translates between above and below, between two departments, between two people who have stopped speaking. The line says you will be listened to, and that your usefulness today is moving something big — a relocation, a restructure, a change of course. Concretely: do not take sides with either end. Your power here comes precisely from standing in the middle and from both sides trusting your account of things.

La línea central del hexagrama y su corazón. Dice: si vas a hacer el bien, hacelo sin preguntar si conviene y sin chequear si te lo van a agradecer. El pedido de confirmación es lo único que arruina el gesto. En lo concreto: pagá lo que ibas a pagar, ayudá a quien ibas a ayudar, mandá el mensaje que tenías escrito. El reconocimiento llega igual, y llega mejor cuando no salís a buscarlo.
The central line of the hexagram and its heart. It says: if you are going to do good, do it without asking whether it pays and without checking whether you will be thanked. Asking for confirmation is the one thing that spoils the gesture. Concretely: pay what you were going to pay, help who you were going to help, send the message you already wrote. The recognition comes anyway, and it comes better when you were not out looking for it.

La única línea oscura, y es una advertencia de carácter. Recibiste el aumento y lo cerraste sobre vos: no repartiste, no devolviste, no hiciste circular nada. La consecuencia no es moral, es práctica: el mismo viento que traía ahora golpea, y el corazón inestable no encuentra dónde apoyarse. En lo concreto: si estás en una racha buena y no hay ni una persona que se haya beneficiado con vos, esta línea te está mostrando la factura antes de que llegue.
The only dark line, and it is a warning about character. You received the increase and closed it around yourself: you shared nothing, returned nothing, circulated nothing. The consequence is not moral but practical: the same wind that brought things now strikes at you, and an unsteady heart finds nowhere to stand. Concretely: if you are on a good run and not a single person has benefited alongside you, this line is showing you the bill before it arrives.
