El dictamen. Después de la consumación. Éxito en lo pequeño. Es propicia la perseverancia. Al comienzo, fortuna; al final, desorden.

La imagen. El agua por encima del fuego: la imagen del estado posterior a la consumación. Así el noble piensa en la desgracia y se arma de antemano contra ella.

El 63 es el único hexagrama del libro en el que las seis líneas están en su lugar correcto: yang en las posiciones impares, yin en las pares. Orden perfecto, sin una sola pieza fuera de sitio. Y justamente por eso el Dictamen no promete grandeza: promete "éxito en lo pequeño". Cuando todo está en su lugar, no queda espacio para crecer; lo único que puede pasar es que algo se corra.

La figura muestra el agua arriba y el fuego abajo, que es la olla sobre la llama: el arreglo exacto en que las dos fuerzas trabajan juntas en vez de anularse. Funciona, y funciona porque alguien lo dispuso así. Sacá la olla del fuego y el agua se enfría; dejala de más y se derrama sobre las brasas.

De ahí la frase que asusta: al comienzo fortuna, al final desorden. No es una maldición, es física. Todo sistema perfecto empieza a desgastarse desde el instante en que está terminado.

Por eso la Imagen manda pensar en la desgracia y prepararse antes. No es pesimismo: es mantenimiento. En un momento así, la prudencia no consiste en desconfiar sino en revisar.

The Judgment. After Completion. Success in small matters. Perseverance is favourable. At the beginning, good fortune; at the end, disorder.

The Image. Water above fire: the image of the condition after completion. Thus the noble one thinks of misfortune and arms against it in advance.

Hexagram 63 is the only figure in the book in which all six lines sit in their correct place: yang in the odd positions, yin in the even ones. Perfect order, not a single piece out of place. And precisely for that reason the Judgment promises no greatness: it promises "success in small matters". When everything is in place, there is no room left to grow; the only thing that can happen is that something slips.

The figure shows water above and fire below, which is the pot over the flame: the exact arrangement in which the two forces work together instead of cancelling each other. It works, and it works because someone arranged it that way. Take the pot off the fire and the water cools; leave it too long and it spills over the coals.

Hence the phrase that frightens people: at the beginning good fortune, at the end disorder. It is not a curse, it is physics. Every perfect system begins to wear down from the instant it is finished.

That is why the Image orders thinking about misfortune and preparing in advance. It is not pessimism: it is maintenance. In a moment like this, prudence does not consist in distrusting but in checking.

Porque el 63 no es el hexagrama del logro: es el del día después. Todo está en su lugar, así que la única tarea real es cuidarlo, y las cosas se cuidan cuando todavía no se rompieron. Ese es el consejo entero, y es tan poco espectacular que la mayoría lo saltea.

El error típico tiene, otra vez, dos caras. La primera es soltar el volante: ya está, ya llegamos, y en tres meses la relación está desatendida, el sistema sin actualizar, el cliente sin llamar. La segunda es más rara y muy común en gente inquieta: como la calma incomoda, se inventa un problema nuevo. Se rediseña lo que funcionaba, se abre otro frente, se busca una crisis para volver a sentirse útil. Con el 63 eso es tirar el orden por la ventana.

El tercer camino es el mantenimiento como oficio: la reparación chica antes de que sea grande, la conversación de diez minutos antes de que sea de dos horas, el backup, el chequeo, el mensaje que no era urgente. La línea 5 lo remata mejor que ningún consejo moderno: la ofrenda modesta del vecino del oeste vale más que el buey del vecino del este. Lo pequeño y sincero, ahora, gana.

Y una advertencia final: el desorden del que habla el Dictamen no llega por afuera. Llega por descuido.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 63 suele aparecer cuando:

• Conseguiste algo importante y no sabés bien qué sigue.
• Todo funciona y aun así estás inquieto, como esperando el golpe.
• Un proyecto entró en régimen y el equipo empezó a aflojar.
• Una relación se estabilizó y ahora casi no se conversa.

You drew 63 and most likely you have achieved something. You signed, you moved, you delivered, the relationship went official, the launch shipped, the new job started. The hexagram tells you two things on the same line: well done, and now begins the part nobody applauds.

Because 63 is not the hexagram of achievement: it is the hexagram of the day after. Everything is in place, so the only real task is to look after it, and things are looked after while they are not yet broken. That is the whole counsel, and it is so unspectacular that most people skip it.

The typical mistake has, once again, two faces. The first is letting go of the wheel: we made it, we are here, and in three months the relationship is unattended, the system unpatched, the client uncalled. The second is stranger and very common among restless people: since calm is uncomfortable, a new problem gets invented. What worked is redesigned, another front is opened, a crisis is sought so as to feel useful again. With 63, that is throwing the order out of the window.

The third way is maintenance as a craft: the small repair before it becomes big, the ten-minute conversation before it becomes a two-hour one, the backup, the check, the message that was not urgent. Line 5 puts it better than any modern advice: the modest offering of the western neighbour is worth more than the ox of the eastern one. Small and sincere, right now, wins.

And one last warning: the disorder the Judgment speaks of does not arrive from outside. It arrives through neglect.

In practice, hexagram 63 tends to come up when:

• You achieved something important and you are not sure what comes next.
• Everything works and you are still uneasy, as if waiting for the blow.
• A project settled into routine and the team started to slacken.
• A relationship stabilised and now there is barely any conversation.

   Frena sus ruedas; el zorro moja la cola. Sin defecto.He brakes his wheels; the fox gets its tail wet. No blame.

   Recién cruzaste y ya querés arrancar con lo siguiente. La línea te frena: pisá el freno, aguantá el envión. Mojarte la cola acá no es un fracaso, es la señal de que ibas rápido y podés corregir sin costo. En concreto, después de un logro conviene un día de nada, un fin de semana sin planes, una semana sin decisiones nuevas. Consolidar también es trabajo.

   You have only just crossed and you already want to launch the next thing. The line brakes you: press the pedal, hold the momentum back. Getting your tail wet here is not a failure, it is the sign that you were going fast and can correct at no cost. Concretely, after an achievement it is worth having a day of nothing, a weekend with no plans, a week with no new decisions. Consolidating is also work.

   La mujer pierde la cortina de su carruaje. No corras a buscarla: al séptimo día la vas a recuperar.The woman loses the curtain of her carriage. Do not run after it: on the seventh day you will get it back.

   Perdiste algo que te protegía: un reconocimiento, un cargo, una atención que dabas por tuya. El impulso es salir a reclamarlo enseguida. La línea dice que no: eso vuelve solo, en su tiempo, y correr detrás te rebaja. Mientras tanto, seguí haciendo lo tuyo con la misma dignidad de siempre. Lo que se recupera reclamando nunca vuelve completo; lo que vuelve solo, vuelve entero.

   You lost something that protected you: a recognition, a title, an attention you took for granted. The impulse is to go and claim it back immediately. The line says no: that returns on its own, in its own time, and chasing it lowers you. Meanwhile, carry on with your work with the same dignity as always. What you recover by demanding never comes back whole; what returns on its own returns entire.

   El Ilustre Antepasado somete al país de los demonios; después de tres años lo conquista. No conviene emplear gente inferior.The Illustrious Ancestor subdues the Devil Country; after three years he conquers it. Inferior people should not be employed.

   Después de consolidar viene la tentación de expandir, y el texto avisa que esa expansión cuesta tres años. No es imposible: es larga y cara. Si vas a hacerlo, la advertencia importa más que el permiso: no lo delegues en cualquiera. Una campaña larga se pierde por el equipo, no por el enemigo. Elegí despacio a quién le das cosas para hacer.

   After consolidating comes the temptation to expand, and the text warns that such expansion costs three years. It is not impossible: it is long and expensive. If you are going to do it, the warning matters more than the permission: do not delegate it to just anyone. A long campaign is lost through the team, not through the enemy. Choose slowly who you hand work to.

4. LíneaLine 4 — La seda que se deshilachaThe silk that frays

   La ropa más fina termina en harapos. Mantenete alerta todo el día.The finest clothes end in rags. Stay alert all day long.

   La línea del mantenimiento pura y dura, y la más útil del hexagrama para la vida diaria. Lo mejor que tenés se deshilacha si no lo mirás: la casa, el auto, el cuerpo, el vínculo, la reputación. No pide angustia, pide atención repartida en el día. Guardá la muda de repuesto, revisá la cuenta, preguntá cómo está el otro antes de que te lo tenga que decir enojado.

   The maintenance line, plain and hard, and the most useful one in the hexagram for daily life. The best thing you own frays if you do not look at it: the house, the car, the body, the bond, the reputation. It asks not for anxiety but for attention spread across the day. Keep the spare clothes packed, check the account, ask the other person how they are before they have to tell you angrily.

5. LíneaLine 5 — El buey y la ofrenda pequeñaThe ox and the small offering

   El vecino del este sacrifica un buey y no alcanza la dicha real del vecino del oeste con su ofrenda pequeña.The eastern neighbour sacrifices an ox and does not attain the real happiness of the western neighbour with his small offering.

   La época premia lo modesto y sincero, no lo grande y vistoso. El vecino que carnea el buey hace ruido; el que ofrece poco pero en el momento justo recibe. Traducido: el regalo caro no arregla el aniversario olvidado, el evento gigante no reemplaza al seguimiento semanal. Si tenés que elegir entre un gesto enorme y una atención constante, con el 63 la respuesta es siempre la segunda.

   The season rewards the modest and sincere, not the large and showy. The neighbour who slaughters the ox makes noise; the one who offers little but at the right moment receives. Translated: the expensive gift does not fix the forgotten anniversary, the giant event does not replace the weekly follow-up. If you have to choose between an enormous gesture and constant attention, with 63 the answer is always the second.

   La última línea es la única con peligro claro y llega justo al final, cuando ya parecía todo resuelto. Es el que se confía y se hunde a un metro de la orilla: el brindis antes de firmar, el descuido en el último trámite, la frase de más en la reunión de cierre. Si te salió esta línea, mirá dónde estás relajando la atención y volvé a ponerla ahí durante lo que queda del cruce.

   The last line is the only one with clear danger, and it arrives right at the end, when everything already looked settled. It is the person who grows confident and sinks a metre from the shore: the toast before signing, the slip in the final paperwork, the extra sentence in the closing meeting. If you drew this line, look at where you are relaxing your attention and put it back there for whatever remains of the crossing.
