El dictamen. La preponderancia de lo pequeño. Éxito. Es propicia la perseverancia. Se pueden hacer las cosas pequeñas, no las grandes. El pájaro que vuela deja su canto: no conviene subir, conviene quedarse abajo. Gran fortuna.

La imagen. El trueno sobre la montaña: la imagen de la preponderancia de lo pequeño. Así el noble da preponderancia al respeto en su conducta, al duelo en la pérdida y al ahorro en sus gastos.

Arriba el trueno, abajo la montaña. Un trueno en la llanura retumba en todo el valle; un trueno allá arriba, en la cumbre, suena fuerte y no alcanza a nadie. Mucho ruido, poco radio. Esa es la primera advertencia de la figura.

La segunda está en el dibujo mismo. Dos líneas firmes en el centro y cuatro blandas alrededor: la tradición lo lee como un pájaro con el cuerpo chiquito y las alas extendidas. Lo pequeño está en mayoría, y en el I Ching la mayoría manda. No es un hexagrama de escasez: es un hexagrama de escala. Los medios que tenés hoy son medios chicos.

De ahí sale la frase más famosa: el pájaro que vuela deja su canto, y conviene que baje en lugar de subir. Volar alto con alas chicas es agotarse lejos de casa.

Y por eso la Imagen manda un exceso, pero en la dirección correcta: más respeto del necesario en la conducta, más duelo del necesario en la pérdida, más ahorro del necesario en el gasto. Cuando la época es pequeña, el único exceso permitido es el que va hacia adentro. Pasarse de prudente, no de ambicioso.

The Judgment. Preponderance of the Small. Success. Perseverance is favourable. Small things may be done, great ones may not. The flying bird leaves its call behind: it is not well to climb, it is well to stay below. Great good fortune.

The Image. Thunder upon the mountain: the image of Preponderance of the Small. Thus the noble one gives preponderance to reverence in conduct, to grief in loss and to thrift in spending.

Thunder above, mountain below. Thunder on the plain rolls across the whole valley; thunder up there on the summit sounds loud and reaches nobody. Plenty of noise, small radius. That is the first warning of the figure.

The second is in the drawing itself. Two firm lines at the centre and four yielding ones around them: the tradition reads it as a bird with a small body and outstretched wings. The small is in the majority, and in the I Ching the majority governs. This is not a hexagram of scarcity: it is a hexagram of scale. The means you have today are small means.

From there comes the most famous phrase: the flying bird leaves its call behind, and it is better for it to descend than to climb. Flying high on small wings means exhausting yourself far from home.

And that is why the Image orders an excess, but in the correct direction: more reverence than strictly needed in conduct, more grief than strictly needed in loss, more thrift than strictly needed in spending. When the season is small, the only permitted excess is the one that points inward. Overdo the prudence, not the ambition.

Sacaste el 62 y probablemente estés en una de dos situaciones. O tenés entre manos algo modesto y te da vergüenza que sea tan poco, o al revés: estás por hacer un movimiento grande, la declaración, la inversión, el mail decisivo, la mudanza.

El hexagrama contesta lo mismo en los dos casos: hoy la escala es chica, y hacer lo chico con exceso de cuidado es exactamente lo que corresponde. No es un consejo de resignación. Es una lectura del momento: tus alas dan para este vuelo, no para el otro.

El error típico va, otra vez, en dos direcciones. La primera es el gesto grande por impaciencia: querer resolver de un saque algo que necesita seis semanas de trabajo aburrido. El pájaro sube, se cansa y cae; eso es la línea 1 y la línea 6, las dos peores del hexagrama y las dos por lo mismo. La segunda es la parálisis por comparación: como lo que puedo hacer es minúsculo, no hago nada. También es un error, y más caro, porque el hexagrama dice claramente que las cosas pequeñas sí se pueden hacer.

El tercer camino es artesanal: elegí la tarea más chica que efectivamente podés terminar hoy y hacela mejor de lo que hace falta. Contestá bien ese mensaje. Ordená esa carpeta. Llegá cinco minutos antes. Escribí las trescientas palabras. Es poco glamoroso y es lo que el momento premia con "gran fortuna", que es lo que promete el Dictamen para quien se queda abajo.

Y si igual te tienta el gesto grande, no lo tires: guardalo. Dentro de unos meses, con más envergadura, va a costar la mitad y va a llegar bastante más lejos. Volar bajo no es volar poco: es volar donde el aire te sostiene.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 62 suele aparecer cuando:

• Estás por hacer un movimiento grande y algo te frena.
• Lo que podés hacer hoy te parece demasiado chico para importar.
• Un asunto delicado necesita más tacto y más forma de la habitual.
• Andás con poco tiempo, poca plata o poca energía y hay que elegir escala.

You drew 62 and you are probably in one of two situations. Either you are holding something modest and feel embarrassed that it is so little, or the reverse: you are about to make a big move, the declaration, the investment, the decisive email, the relocation.

The hexagram answers the same thing in both cases: today the scale is small, and doing the small thing with excessive care is exactly what fits. This is not advice to resign yourself. It is a reading of the moment: your wings are good for this flight, not for that one.

The typical mistake runs, once again, in two directions. The first is the grand gesture out of impatience: wanting to settle in one stroke something that needs six weeks of boring work. The bird climbs, tires and falls; that is line 1 and line 6, the two worst lines of the hexagram, and both for the same reason. The second is paralysis by comparison: since what I can do is tiny, I do nothing. That is also a mistake, and a more expensive one, because the hexagram says plainly that small things may indeed be done.

The third way is craftsmanlike: pick the smallest task you can actually finish today and do it better than necessary. Answer that message well. Sort that folder. Arrive five minutes early. Write the three hundred words. It is unglamorous, and it is what this moment rewards with "great good fortune", which is what the Judgment promises to whoever stays low.

And if the grand gesture still tempts you, do not throw it away: store it. In a few months, with more wingspan, it will cost half as much and reach considerably further. Flying low is not flying little: it is flying where the air holds you.

In practice, hexagram 62 tends to come up when:

• You are about to make a big move and something is holding you back.
• What you can do today feels too small to matter.
• A delicate matter needs more tact and more form than usual.
• You are short on time, money or energy and the scale has to be chosen.

   Todavía no empezaste y ya querés el resultado grande. Mandás el mensaje que lo define todo, pedís el aumento sin antecedentes, anunciás el proyecto antes de tener nada hecho. La línea es tajante porque el problema es de estructura, no de suerte: las alas todavía no dan. Bajá el objetivo de esta semana a algo que puedas terminar y guardá el vuelo largo para cuando tengas con qué.

   You have not started yet and you already want the big result. You send the message that settles everything, ask for the raise with no track record, announce the project before anything is built. The line is blunt because the problem is structural, not a matter of luck: the wings do not carry you yet. Bring this week down to something you can finish, and save the long flight for when you have what it takes.

   No llegás a la persona que querías y llegás a la de al lado. No conseguís al director y te atiende su asistente, no hablás con tu padre y hablás con tu tía. La línea dice que está perfecto: en tiempos chicos el camino correcto es el modesto. No insistas por arriba. Lo que necesitás lo vas a conseguir por la puerta lateral, y en general con menos costo del que imaginabas.

   You do not reach the person you wanted and you reach the one beside them. You cannot get the director and the assistant sees you, you do not speak to your father and you speak to your aunt. The line says this is exactly right: in small times the correct road is the modest one. Do not insist upwards. What you need will come through the side door, and usually at less cost than you expected.

   La línea del exceso de confianza en una época que no lo permite. Creés que ya está resuelto, dejás el detalle sin revisar, contás algo de más, firmás sin leer. En tiempos pequeños los descuidos chicos hacen daño grande. No es paranoia lo que se te pide: es prolijidad. Revisá el contrato, guardá la copia, confirmá la reserva, releé el mensaje antes de mandarlo.

   The line of overconfidence in a season that does not allow it. You think it is settled, you leave the detail unchecked, you say a bit too much, you sign without reading. In small times, small carelessness does big damage. What is asked of you is not paranoia: it is tidiness. Check the contract, keep the copy, confirm the booking, reread the message before you send it.

   You have arrived at the right point: neither short nor over. Now the text asks you for something hard, which is to do nothing. Do not advance, do not close, do not seal it. Just hold the position and keep doing what you were doing. It is the line of the person who has said what they had to say and now goes quiet, of the one who put in the proposal and waits. Holding without pushing is also an action.

   Todo está listo y no descarga: las condiciones están dadas, el equipo está armado y aun así no pasa. Falta un elemento que no está a la vista, y el texto dice cómo se consigue: hay que ir a buscar al que está escondido en la cueva. Traducido, la persona que necesitás no va a venir sola; anda retirada, no se ofrece. Andá vos a buscarla y pedile explícitamente que participe.

   Everything is ready and it will not break: the conditions are there, the team is assembled, and still nothing happens. One element is missing and it is not in plain view, and the text says how it is obtained: you have to go after the one hidden in the cave. Translated, the person you need is not going to come on their own; they are withdrawn, they do not volunteer. Go and find them, and explicitly ask them to take part.

   Te pasaste. Seguiste subiendo, seguiste exigiendo, seguiste agrandando el asunto y ya no hay nadie a tu alrededor. El pájaro se fue tan lejos que no lo alcanza ni su propio canto. Es la línea más dura del hexagrama y también la más clara: lo único que corrige esto es volver, bajar, achicar. Si te salió, revisá qué inflaste y devolvelo a su tamaño antes de que el daño se haga costumbre.

   You have overshot. You kept climbing, kept demanding, kept inflating the matter, and now there is nobody around you. The bird has flown so far that even its own call cannot reach it. It is the harshest line of the hexagram and also the clearest: the only thing that corrects this is coming back, going down, scaling in. If you drew it, look at what you inflated and return it to its size before the damage becomes routine.
