La imagen. Lagos que descansan uno sobre otro: la imagen de lo sereno. Así el noble se reúne con sus amigos para conversar y para practicar juntos.

Otro de los ocho hexagramas dobles: el lago arriba y el lago abajo. Duì es la hija menor, la boca, el otoño y la cosecha; el trigrama tiene dos líneas firmes abajo y una yin blanda arriba, y esa es toda la enseñanza en una imagen: firme adentro, abierto en la superficie.

Dos lagos que se tocan se alimentan uno al otro. El agua pasa de uno al otro y ninguno se seca. Un lago solo, en cambio, se evapora. Por eso el Dictamen agrega "es propicia la perseverancia": la alegría del 58 no es la euforia de una noche, es una condición que se sostiene porque circula.

La Imagen manda juntarse con los amigos a conversar y a practicar. No dice festejar: dice conversar y practicar. En la tradición, el estudio compartido es la forma más alta del placer, porque une las dos cosas que el hexagrama pide: el gusto de estar juntos y la firmeza de estar haciendo algo. La alegría que no se comparte se evapora, y la que no se apoya en nada firme se vuelve otra cosa, que las líneas 3 y 6 describen sin piedad.

The Image. Lakes resting one upon the other: the image of the Joyous. Thus the noble one gathers with friends to talk and to practise together.

Another of the eight doubled figures: lake above and lake below. Dui is the youngest daughter, the mouth, autumn and harvest; the trigram has two firm lines below and one yielding line on top, and that is the whole teaching in a picture: firm inside, open at the surface.

Two lakes that touch feed one another. Water passes between them and neither runs dry. A single lake, by contrast, evaporates. That is why the Judgment adds "perseverance is favourable": the joy of 58 is not one night of euphoria, it is a condition that lasts because it circulates.

The Image orders gathering with friends to talk and to practise. It does not say to celebrate: it says to talk and to practise. In the tradition, shared study is the highest form of pleasure, because it joins the two things the hexagram asks for: the delight of being together and the firmness of doing something. Joy that is not shared evaporates, and joy resting on nothing firm turns into something else, which lines 3 and 6 describe without mercy.

Sacaste el 58 y la pregunta probablemente tenía que ver con un clima: cómo está un vínculo, cómo está el equipo, cómo estás vos. La respuesta es buena, y viene con una condición.

La condición es la estructura del trigrama: blando arriba, firme abajo; la alegría se sostiene sobre algo duro, nunca sobre una sonrisa sola. Cuando decís lo que pensás con buen tono, eso es 58. Cuando decís que sí a todo para que nadie se enoje, eso ya no es el lago: es un charco.

El error típico también tiene dos caras y las vas a reconocer enseguida. La primera es la alegría de exportación: el "todo bien" automático, el grupo donde nadie se queja nunca, la reunión donde se aplaude cualquier cosa. Cansa, y por debajo se acumula un rencor prolijo. La segunda es la solemnidad: tratar el disfrute como una frivolidad, no permitirse festejar nada hasta que esté todo resuelto. Con esa lógica no se festeja nunca.

El tercer camino del hexagrama es concreto y está en la Imagen: juntate con gente a conversar y a practicar. Alegría con contenido. El asado donde de verdad se habla, el grupo de estudio, el ensayo con la banda, el entrenamiento con alguien. Ahí el placer y la disciplina dejan de ser enemigos.

Ojo con las líneas 3 y 6, que son el borde. Buscar afuera lo que no tenés adentro (la distracción, el chiste que tapa, el estímulo constante) y seducir para que te quieran son las dos formas en que el lago se ensucia. La alegría del 58 no persigue: contagia. Y si te descubrís saliendo a buscarla, fijate antes si no la venís gastando con gente que solo la consume y nunca la devuelve.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 58 suele aparecer cuando:

• Un vínculo o un equipo está en un buen momento y querés saber si es real.
• Te cuesta permitirte disfrutar hasta tener todo resuelto.
• Sospechás que el buen clima del grupo es de compromiso y no genuino.
• Estás buscando afuera un ánimo que no encontrás adentro.

You drew 58 and the question probably had to do with a climate: how a relationship is doing, how the team is doing, how you are doing. The answer is good, and it comes with a condition.

The condition is the structure of the trigram: yielding on top, firm underneath; joy rests on something solid, never on a smile alone. When you say what you think in a good tone, that is 58. When you say yes to everything so nobody gets upset, that is no longer the lake: that is a puddle.

The typical mistake also has two faces and you will recognise both at once. The first is export-grade cheerfulness: the automatic "all good", the group where nobody ever complains, the meeting where anything gets applause. It is exhausting, and underneath it a tidy resentment piles up. The second is solemnity: treating enjoyment as frivolous, refusing to celebrate anything until everything is resolved. On that logic nothing ever gets celebrated.

The third way of the hexagram is concrete and it sits in the Image: gather with people to talk and to practise. Joy with content. The dinner where people actually talk, the study group, rehearsal with the band, training with someone. There, pleasure and discipline stop being enemies.

Mind lines 3 and 6, which mark the edge. Looking outside for what you do not have inside (the distraction, the joke that covers, the constant stimulus) and charming people into liking you are the two ways the lake gets dirty. The joy of 58 does not chase: it spreads. And if you catch yourself out hunting for it, check first whether you have been spending it on people who only consume it and never give any back.

In practice, hexagram 58 tends to come up when:

• A relationship or a team is in a good moment and you want to know whether it is real.
• You find it hard to let yourself enjoy anything until everything is settled.
• You suspect the good mood in the group is dutiful rather than genuine.
• You are looking outside for a mood you cannot find inside.

   La alegría que no depende de nadie. No estás comparando, no estás esperando que alguien te confirme que la estás pasando bien. Es la mejor línea del hexagrama justamente porque no tiene condiciones. En lo cotidiano: disfrutar la mañana sin contarla, hacer algo porque te gusta y no porque queda bien. Si te salió esta línea, no le agregues nada; ya está completa.

   The joy that depends on nobody. You are not comparing, not waiting for someone to confirm you are having a good time. It is the best line of the hexagram precisely because it has no conditions. In everyday terms: enjoying the morning without reporting it, doing something because you like it and not because it looks good. If you drew this line, add nothing to it; it is already complete.

2. LíneaLine 2 — Alegría sinceraSincere joy

   Serenidad sincera. Fortuna. El arrepentimiento desaparece.Sincere joyousness. Good fortune. Remorse disappears.

   Acá hay tentación cerca y elegís lo verdadero igual. Es la línea del que se va temprano de donde no la está pasando bien, del que dice que no a un plan que sabe que le va a hacer mal, del que prefiere una charla honesta a una noche brillante. Lo que desaparece es la resaca moral: no te vas a estar arrepintiendo mañana. La sinceridad, acá, es un placer y no un sacrificio.

   Temptation is nearby and you choose the true thing anyway. This is the line of the person who leaves early from where they are not enjoying themselves, who says no to a plan they know will hurt them, who prefers an honest conversation to a brilliant night. What disappears is the moral hangover: you will not be regretting anything tomorrow. Sincerity, here, is a pleasure and not a sacrifice.

   Scrolleás, comprás, salís, empezás una conversación con cualquiera. Cualquier cosa antes que quedarte con el ánimo que tenés. El texto es duro porque la maniobra siempre termina igual: el estímulo dura menos que la vez anterior. No te pide austeridad ni penitencia; te pide notar la diferencia entre lo que elegís y lo que usás para no sentir. Empezá por una tarde sin tapar nada.

   You scroll, you buy, you go out, you start a conversation with anyone. Anything rather than sitting with the mood you actually have. The text is harsh because the manoeuvre always ends the same way: the stimulus lasts less than it did last time. It is not asking for austerity or penance; it is asking you to notice the difference between what you choose and what you use in order not to feel. Start with one afternoon covering nothing.

   La serenidad que se sopesa no tiene paz; una vez apartado el error, hay alegría.Weighed joyousness is not at peace; once the error is set aside, there is joy.

   Estás entre dos cosas que te gustan y no podés disfrutar ninguna porque las estás comparando. Dos trabajos, dos personas, dos ciudades. La línea dice que la paz no llega evaluando mejor sino descartando lo que ya sabés que está mal. Sacá primero lo que te hace daño y recién ahí elegí entre lo que queda. La cuenta era más simple de lo que parecía.

   You are between two things you like and you cannot enjoy either because you are comparing them. Two jobs, two people, two cities. The line says peace does not arrive through better evaluation but by discarding what you already know is wrong. Remove what harms you first, and only then choose among what is left. The sum was simpler than it looked.

   Le abriste la puerta a algo que te desarma de a poco y encima le tenés cariño. Puede ser una persona encantadora que siempre te deja peor, un vicio simpático, una costumbre del grupo. La línea no te dice que huyas: te dice que lo veas. Nombrá qué te está gastando y ponelo a distancia antes de que sea parte del paisaje. La simpatía de algo no lo vuelve inofensivo.

   You opened the door to something that takes you apart bit by bit, and on top of that you are fond of it. It may be a charming person who always leaves you worse, a likeable vice, a habit of the group. The line does not tell you to run: it tells you to see it. Name what is wearing you down and put it at a distance before it becomes part of the landscape. Something being pleasant does not make it harmless.

   La última línea no lleva sentencia, y eso ya es una advertencia: el texto te deja mirándote. Es la alegría usada para conseguir algo, el encanto como herramienta, el buen humor que en realidad es una negociación. Funciona un tiempo y después la gente lo huele. Si te salió esta línea, revisá si estás disfrutando o actuando; y si estás del otro lado, fijate a quién le estás creyendo la sonrisa.

   The last line carries no verdict, and that is already a warning: the text leaves you looking at yourself. This is joy used to obtain something, charm as a tool, good humour that is really a negotiation. It works for a while and then people smell it. If you drew this line, check whether you are enjoying or performing; and if you are on the receiving end, look at whose smile you are believing.
