El dictamen. Ir al encuentro. La joven es poderosa. No conviene casarse con una joven así.

La imagen. Bajo el cielo, el viento: la imagen del encuentro. Así el soberano difunde sus órdenes y las hace llegar a los cuatro puntos del mundo.

El 44 es el espejo exacto del 24. Allá una línea de yang volvía abajo de todo después de haberse agotado; acá vuelve una línea de yin bajo cinco de yang. Es el quinto mes, justo después del solsticio de verano: el día más largo ya pasó y, aunque todavía haga calor y todo esté verde, la oscuridad volvió a entrar por abajo. Nadie la ve. Es una sola línea.

La figura es viento bajo cielo. El viento se mete en todas partes sin pedir permiso, entra por debajo de las puertas, toca lo que el cielo apenas mira. Eso es un encuentro: algo llega al ras del piso y se cuela. Por eso el Dictamen usa la imagen de la joven poderosa —lo pequeño que tiene una fuerza desproporcionada— y aconseja no casarse con ella: encontrarse sí, unirse no.

La Imagen parece de otro tema y no lo es. Si el viento llega a todos lados, el soberano tiene que hacer lo mismo: difundir sus órdenes hasta el último rincón. Frente a una influencia que se filtra por abajo, la respuesta clásica no es cerrar las puertas sino que lo propio esté presente en todas partes. Se contrarresta una filtración con presencia, no con murallas.

The Judgment. Coming to Meet. The maiden is powerful. One should not marry such a maiden.

The Image. Under heaven, the wind: the image of Coming to Meet. Thus the ruler spreads his commands and carries them to the four quarters of the world.

Hexagram 44 is the exact mirror of 24. There a yang line came back at the very bottom after being spent; here a yin line returns beneath five yang. It is the fifth month, just after the summer solstice: the longest day is behind us and, though it is still hot and everything is green, darkness has re-entered from below. Nobody sees it. It is a single line.

The figure is wind under heaven. Wind gets everywhere without asking, slips under doors, touches what heaven barely glances at. That is an encounter: something arrives at floor level and seeps in. Hence the Judgment's image of the powerful maiden — the small thing with disproportionate force — and its advice not to marry her: meet, yes; bind yourself, no.

The Image looks like a different subject and is not. If the wind reaches everywhere, the ruler must do the same: spread his commands to the last corner. Faced with an influence seeping in from below, the classical answer is not to shut the doors but to make what is yours present everywhere. A leak is countered with presence, not with walls.

En lo concreto aparece así. Alguien te escribe después de meses y la charla arranca fácil. Te ofrecen un trabajo que suena perfecto y hay apuro por confirmar. Conocés a alguien y en tres días ya están hablando de mudarse juntos. Volvés a tomar "solo los fines de semana". Te sumás a un grupo donde te reciben rápido y con mucha calidez. En todos los casos hay una energía chica que se movió abajo y que, si la dejás sola, crece más rápido de lo que calculás. Cinco líneas fuertes no vieron entrar a la sexta.

El error típico con el 44 tiene dos formas simétricas. La primera es el desprecio: "es una pavada, no pasa nada", y a los tres meses la pavada organiza tu semana. La segunda es la fusión: el entusiasmo del encuentro te hace comprometerte de entrada, y comprometerse en el primer encuentro es exactamente lo que el Dictamen desaconseja. No porque el otro sea peligroso, sino porque todavía no sabés qué llegó.

El tercer camino es el que da la Imagen y es raro por lo activo: no cierres la puerta, ocupá la casa. Encontrate con lo que llegó, tratalo bien, prestale atención completa —y al mismo tiempo mantené tus acuerdos, tus horarios, tu gente, tu criterio funcionando en todos los rincones. Lo que se filtra crece en los lugares donde vos no estás. Si tu vida está habitada, un encuentro es un encuentro. Si está vacía, cualquier cosa que entre se vuelve dueña.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 44 suele aparecer cuando:

• Apareció alguien nuevo y todo va más rápido de lo habitual.
• Te llegó una propuesta tentadora con presión para responder ya.
• Volvió un hábito, un contacto o una situación que habías dejado atrás.
• Sentís que algo chico se metió en tu rutina y ya ocupa más lugar del que le diste.

You drew 44 and something has come close. A new person, a proposal, an opportunity that turned up unlooked-for, or an old habit knocking again with a friendly face. The hexagram does not say it is bad. It says something finer: meet it, look carefully, and sign nothing yet.

Concretely it looks like this. Someone writes after months and the conversation flows immediately. You are offered a job that sounds perfect and there is a rush to confirm. You meet someone and three days later you are discussing moving in. You start drinking again "only at weekends". You join a group that welcomes you fast and very warmly. In every case a small energy moved at the bottom and, left alone, grows faster than you calculate. Five strong lines never saw the sixth come in.

The typical mistake with 44 comes in two symmetrical shapes. The first is contempt: "it is nothing, no big deal" — and three months later the nothing is organising your week. The second is fusion: the thrill of the encounter has you committing at once, and committing at the first encounter is exactly what the Judgment advises against. Not because the other is dangerous, but because you do not yet know what arrived.

The third way is the Image's, and it is oddly active: do not shut the door, occupy the house. Meet what arrived, treat it well, give it your full attention — and at the same time keep your agreements, your hours, your people and your judgement running in every corner. What seeps in grows in the places where you are not. If your life is inhabited, an encounter stays an encounter. If it is empty, whatever enters becomes the owner.

In practice, hexagram 44 tends to come up when:

• Someone new has appeared and everything is moving faster than usual.
• A tempting offer arrived with pressure to answer immediately.
• A habit, a contact or a situation you had left behind has come back.
• You sense something small slipped into your routine and already takes up more room than you gave it.

Left to run, there is misfortune: even a lean pig has it in him to charge.

   La línea más práctica del hexagrama y la más ignorada. Dice que lo que recién entró se frena ahora, cuando todavía es chiquito y parece inofensivo. El chancho flaco es exactamente eso: nadie le teme y embiste igual. En lo concreto: poné el límite hoy —el horario, el monto, la frecuencia, el "esta vez no"— mientras el costo de ponerlo es cero. Dentro de un mes, el mismo límite va a ser una discusión; dentro de un año, una ruptura.

   The most practical line of the hexagram and the most ignored. It says that what has just come in gets checked now, while it is still small and looks harmless. The lean pig is exactly that: nobody fears it and it charges anyway. Concretely: set the limit today — the hour, the amount, the frequency, the "not this time" — while setting it costs nothing. In a month the same limit is an argument; in a year, a rupture.

2. LíneaLine 2 — El pez en la cestaThe fish in the basket

   Hay un pez en la cesta. Ningún reproche. No conviene ofrecerlo a los huéspedes.There is a fish in the basket. No blame. It does not do to offer it to guests.

   Tenés lo que llegó bajo control: está contenido, es tuyo, no hay problema. La advertencia es sobre compartirlo. En lo concreto: hay influencias, contactos o tentaciones que podés manejar vos y que no conviene poner a circular —no le presentes esa persona al equipo, no metas ese tema en la mesa familiar, no invites a otros a la costumbre que vos sabés dosificar—. Lo que a vos te resulta manejable puede desordenar a quien no tiene tu cesta.

   What arrived is under control: contained, yours, no problem. The warning is about sharing it. Concretely: there are influences, contacts and temptations you can personally handle that should not be put into circulation — do not introduce that person to the team, do not bring that subject to the family table, do not invite others into the habit you know how to ration. What is manageable for you can disorder someone who has no basket of their own.

3. LíneaLine 3 — Caminar en carne vivaWalking on raw flesh

   No hay piel en los muslos y caminar cuesta. Si se está atento al peligro, no se comete un gran error.There is no skin on the thighs and walking is hard. Mindful of the danger, no great mistake is made.

   Estás tironeado: querés acercarte y algo te retiene, y esa fricción duele. La línea no resuelve el tironeo, pero te salva: mientras seas consciente del riesgo, no vas a cometer un error grande. En lo concreto: quedarte incómodo unos días es mejor que resolver la incomodidad tirándote de cabeza. Si no sabés si avanzar o retirarte, no hagas ninguna de las dos con fuerza. La indecisión atenta es una posición legítima acá.

   You are pulled two ways: you want to move closer and something holds you, and that friction hurts. The line does not resolve the pull, but it saves you: as long as you stay aware of the risk, you will make no great mistake. Concretely: staying uncomfortable for a few days beats resolving the discomfort by diving in. If you do not know whether to advance or withdraw, do neither with force. Watchful indecision is a legitimate position here.

   Lo contrario de la línea 2: perdiste el contacto con la base. Te desentendiste de los que estaban abajo tuyo, del cliente chico, del amigo que no da rédito, del equipo que sostiene lo que mostrás, y ahora, cuando necesitás apoyo, no hay nadie. La desgracia acá no llega de afuera; se fabricó por ausencia. En lo concreto: si hace tiempo que no preguntás cómo está la gente que te sostiene, empezá por ahí antes de resolver cualquier otra cosa.

   The opposite of line 2: you lost touch with the base. You stopped paying attention to the people below you, the small client, the friend who yields nothing, the team that holds up what you show — and now, when you need support, nobody is there. The misfortune here does not arrive from outside; it was manufactured by absence. Concretely: if it has been a while since you asked how the people holding you up are doing, start there before solving anything else.

   La mejor línea del hexagrama y la más elegante. El melón está ahí, dulce y listo, pero tapado: no se exhibe, no se fuerza, madura sin que nadie lo mire. Y cuando está, cae solo. En lo concreto: si querés que algo se dé —un vínculo, un acuerdo, un cambio—, dejá de mostrarlo y dejá de apurarlo. Hacé bien lo tuyo, en silencio, y dale tiempo. Lo que madura tapado llega entero; lo que se destapa antes se pudre o te lo sacan.

   The best line of the hexagram and the most elegant. The melon is there, sweet and ready, but covered: not displayed, not forced, ripening while nobody looks. And when it is ready, it drops on its own. Concretely: if you want something to happen — a relationship, an agreement, a change — stop showing it and stop rushing it. Do your part well, quietly, and give it time. What ripens covered arrives whole; what is uncovered early either rots or gets taken.

   La última línea, arriba de todo y lejos de la escena. Te retiraste tanto que ahora recibís a cualquiera a la defensiva, con los cuernos por delante. El resultado es incómodo —quedás áspero, distante, mal interpretado— y sin embargo el texto dice que no hay reproche: en tu lugar, no encontrarte con nadie es una decisión legítima. En lo concreto: si estás en modo erizo, aceptá el costo social y no lo disfraces de superioridad. Es distancia, no virtud.

   The last line, at the very top and far from the scene. You withdrew so far that now you receive anyone defensively, horns first. The result is uncomfortable — you come off harsh, distant, misread — and yet the text says there is no fault: from where you stand, meeting no one is a legitimate choice. Concretely: if you are in hedgehog mode, accept the social cost and do not dress it up as superiority. It is distance, not virtue.
