El dictamen. La desintegración. No es propicio emprender nada ni tener adónde ir.
La imagen. La montaña descansa sobre la tierra: la imagen de la desintegración. Así los de arriba aseguran su lugar solamente siendo generosos con los de abajo.
El 23 es la figura de la erosión: cinco líneas blandas subieron desde abajo y sólo queda una firme arriba de todo, como la cima de una montaña apoyada en una tierra que se va desmoronando. Nada la ataca de frente. Se le gasta la base.
El calendario lo ubica en el noveno mes, el otoño avanzado, cuando las hojas caen y el fruto se desprende. Por eso el Dictamen es tan corto y tan claro: no conviene emprender nada ni tener adónde ir. No es pesimismo, es lectura del clima. Hay momentos en que cualquier movimiento hacia adelante gasta lo poco que queda.
La Imagen dice algo que suena sorprendentemente moderno: los de arriba sólo aseguran su lugar siendo generosos con los de abajo. Si la montaña se sostiene sobre la tierra, cuidar la tierra es cuidar la cima. Cuando una estructura se desintegra, la respuesta tradicional no es apuntalar la punta sino alimentar la base. Y el hexagrama guarda su mejor noticia para el final, en la línea 6: el fruto grande que nadie se comió todavía, la semilla del ciclo siguiente.
The Judgment. Splitting Apart. It is not favourable to undertake anything or to have somewhere to go.
The Image. The mountain rests on the earth: the image of Splitting Apart. Thus those above secure their place only by being generous to those below.
23 is the figure of erosion: five yielding lines have risen from below and only one firm line remains at the very top, like the summit of a mountain resting on ground that is crumbling away. Nothing attacks it head on. Its base wears out.
The calendar places it in the ninth month, late autumn, when the leaves fall and the fruit drops. That is why the Judgment is so short and so clear: it is not favourable to undertake anything or to have somewhere to go. This is not pessimism, it is a reading of the weather. There are moments when any forward movement spends the little that is left.
The Image says something that sounds surprisingly modern: those above secure their place only by being generous to those below. If the mountain stands on the earth, caring for the earth is caring for the summit. When a structure is coming apart, the traditional answer is not to prop up the peak but to feed the base. And the hexagram keeps its best news for the end, in line 6: the great fruit nobody has eaten yet, the seed of the next cycle.

Sacaste el 23 y algo se está cayendo. Puede ser un trabajo que ya no da, una sociedad que se vacía de a poco, una relación que hace meses pierde una pieza por semana, un cuerpo que avisa. Lo característico del 23 no es el golpe: es el desgaste. Nadie lo rompió de una vez. Se está desarmando desde abajo.
El consejo del oráculo es el más contraintuitivo del libro: no avances. No es momento de lanzar, invertir, insistir ni convencer. Cada empujón hacia adelante en este clima consume lo poco firme que todavía queda. Hay que esperar, y esperar acá no es pasividad: es elegir dónde poner el resto de la fuerza.
Ahí está la clave que da la Imagen. Los de arriba se sostienen siendo generosos con los de abajo. Traducido: en vez de defender el cargo, la razón o la fachada, ocupate de la base. Pagá a los que trabajan con vos, cuidá tu salud, atendé a la gente que te sostiene, ordená lo material mínimo. Eso es lo único que se puede hacer ahora, y es mucho.
El error típico también es doble. Uno es apuntalar: gastás energía y dinero sosteniendo una estructura que ya se vació, por orgullo o por miedo al vacío. El otro es hundirte con ella: como todo se cae, te dejás caer, y perdés incluso lo que era rescatable.
El tercer camino es el de la última línea: no defiendas la estructura, guardá la semilla. Preguntate qué es lo único que no querés perder de todo esto y protegé exactamente eso. El fruto que queda en la rama cuando el árbol ya soltó las hojas es el que da el árbol siguiente.
En lo práctico, el hexagrama 23 suele aparecer cuando:
- El hexagrama 23 suele aparecer cuando algo se está desarmando de a poco y sin escándalo.
- Cuando querés lanzar algo nuevo justo en un momento en que todo se cae.
- Cuando te estás quedando sin apoyo abajo: equipo, salud, dinero, gente cercana.
- Cuando conviene retirarse y no está claro cómo hacerlo sin sentirlo una derrota.
You drew 23 and something is falling. It may be a job that no longer gives, a partnership emptying out little by little, a relationship that has been losing a piece a week for months, a body sending signals. What characterises 23 is not the blow: it is the wear. Nobody broke it in one go. It is coming apart from below.
The advice of the oracle is the most counterintuitive in the book: do not advance. This is no time to launch, invest, insist or convince. Every push forward in this weather consumes the little firmness that is left. You have to wait, and waiting here is not passivity: it is choosing where to put the rest of your strength.
That is where the key in the Image lies. Those above hold their place by being generous to those below. Translated: instead of defending the post, the argument or the facade, take care of the base. Pay the people who work with you, look after your health, tend to the people who hold you up, put the minimum material things in order. That is all that can be done now, and it is a great deal.
The typical mistake is double here too. One is propping: you spend energy and money holding up a structure that has already emptied, out of pride or fear of the void. The other is sinking with it: since everything is falling, you let yourself fall, and you lose even what could have been saved.
The third way is the way of the last line: do not defend the structure, keep the seed. Ask yourself what is the one thing you do not want to lose out of all this, and protect exactly that. The fruit still on the branch when the tree has dropped its leaves is the one that gives the next tree.
In practice, hexagram 23 tends to come up when:
- Hexagram 23 tends to show up when something is coming apart slowly and without scandal.
- When you want to launch something new at exactly the moment everything is falling.
- When your support below is running out: team, health, money, the people close to you.
- When withdrawing is the right move and it is not clear how to do it without feeling defeated.

El daño empezó por abajo y todavía casi no se nota: un socio que se corre, un pago que se atrasa, un comentario que antes no existía. La línea marca que quien insiste con el plan original en este punto se destruye. No te dice que huyas: te dice que dejes de defender la posición como si nada estuviera pasando. Mirá la base. Lo que se astilla es el soporte y no el colchón, y el soporte es lo que hay que atender ya.
The damage started underneath and still barely shows: a partner stepping back, a payment running late, a remark that did not exist before. The line marks that whoever insists on the original plan at this point is destroyed. It does not tell you to flee: it tells you to stop defending the position as if nothing were happening. Look at the base. What is splitting is the support and not the mattress, and the support is what has to be seen to now.

La erosión subió y ahora te toca de cerca. Perdiste aliados, quedaste sin la gente que amortiguaba, y estás cada vez más solo sosteniendo lo mismo. La línea repite la advertencia con más urgencia. En lo concreto: dejá de discutir para tener razón y empezá a conseguir apoyo real, aunque sea de una sola persona. Sostener una posición sin nadie al lado en un momento como este es la manera más rápida de perderlo todo, incluida la salud.
The erosion has risen and now it touches you closely. You lost allies, you are without the people who cushioned things, and you are increasingly alone holding up the same thing. The line repeats the warning with more urgency. Concretely: stop arguing to be right and start getting real support, even from a single person. Holding a position with nobody beside you at a moment like this is the fastest way to lose everything, health included.

Es la renuncia que no se explica, el silencio en el chat donde se arma algo turbio, el paso al costado en un proyecto que sabés que va mal. No hace falta un discurso. Alcanza con no estar.
The only clean line among the five yielding ones. You are inside the group pushing toward the fall and you choose to leave, or at least to stop taking part. You will look bad to almost everyone and the line still says there is no fault. It is the resignation that goes unexplained, the silence in the chat where something murky is being arranged, the step aside from a project you know is going badly. No speech is needed. Not being there is enough.

Si dormís mal, comés cualquier cosa y vivís en estado de alerta, la única tarea que corresponde es salir. No es momento de negociar condiciones ni de esperar a fin de mes. Pedí ayuda concreta hoy, decile a alguien lo que está pasando y sacá el cuerpo de donde está.
The wear has stopped being economic or social and reached the body. It is the hardest line of the hexagram and also the most honest: there is nothing left to manage here. If you sleep badly, eat anything and live on alert, the only fitting task is to get out. This is no time to negotiate terms or to wait for the end of the month. Ask for concrete help today, tell somebody what is happening, and get your body out of where it is.

The weather turns around. The forces that were dismantling everything fall into order and come out in favour, like fish suddenly swimming together in one direction. La línea distingue dos destinos con los mismos escombros. El que cuidó a los de abajo recibe un carruaje, es decir, gente que lo lleva. El que se salvó solo se queda sin techo. The best news of the hexagram sits at the end. Everything fell except one thing, and that thing is the seed: a lesson, a bond, a capacity, a client who stayed. The line separates two destinies out of the same rubble. The one who cared for those below receives a carriage, which is to say people who carry him.
