El dictamen. Lo adherente. Es propicia la perseverancia y trae éxito. Cuidar de la vaca trae fortuna.

La imagen. La claridad se eleva dos veces: la imagen del fuego. Así el gran hombre, sosteniendo esa claridad, ilumina los cuatro puntos del mundo.

El 30 es el opuesto exacto del 29: donde había agua sobre agua ahora hay fuego sobre fuego. El trigrama lí es una línea partida encerrada entre dos enteras, hueco por dentro y luminoso por fuera, y esa es la definición física del fuego. No tiene sustancia propia. Arde mientras esté adherido a algo que lo alimente.

De ahí el nombre, que quiere decir a la vez adherirse y brillar. La tradición asocia el hexagrama al sol, al mediodía y al verano, y también a los ojos y a la inteligencia: todo lo que ilumina depende de algo más para existir. El fuego que se separa de su leña se apaga en un minuto.

El Dictamen agrega un consejo que sorprende en un hexagrama tan brillante: cuidar de la vaca. La vaca es el animal dócil y paciente, la imagen del temperamento manso y del trabajo sostenido. Es decir, si querés que la llama dure, ocupate de lo aburrido que la sostiene. Y por eso la Imagen habla de una claridad que se eleva dos veces: la luz recién ilumina el mundo entero cuando alguien la mantiene encendida más de un día.

The Judgment. The clinging. Steadfastness brings reward and brings success. Caring for the cow brings good fortune.

The Image. Brightness rises twice: the image of fire. Thus the great one, by sustaining that brightness, illumines the four quarters of the world.

30 is the exact opposite of 29: where there was water over water there is now fire over fire. The trigram li is a broken line shut between two solid ones, hollow inside and luminous outside, which is the physical definition of fire. It has no substance of its own. It burns while it stays attached to something that feeds it.

Hence the name, which means both to cling and to shine. Tradition links this hexagram to the sun, to noon and to summer, and also to the eyes and to intelligence: everything that illumines depends on something else in order to exist. Fire separated from its wood goes out in a minute.

The Judgment adds advice that is surprising in so brilliant a hexagram: care for the cow. The cow is the docile, patient animal, the image of a mild temperament and of sustained work. In other words, if you want the flame to last, look after the boring thing that holds it up. And that is why the Image speaks of a brightness that rises twice: light only illumines a whole world when somebody keeps it lit for more than a day.

Sacaste el 30 y hay claridad en tu situación: entendiste algo, se te encendió una idea, alguien te vio, un proyecto empezó a brillar. El hexagrama confirma la luz y enseguida te hace la pregunta incómoda: a qué está adherida.

El fuego no se sostiene solo, y toda tu claridad de este momento depende de algo concreto que la alimenta. Puede ser una rutina, un ingreso, un vínculo, un cuerpo descansado, un equipo. Si no sabés cuál es, ya sabés qué averiguar esta semana.

En lo concreto: el entusiasmo enorme por un proyecto que existe gracias a un trabajo aburrido que lo financia. La inspiración que aparece solo los días que dormiste bien. El vínculo intenso que se apoya en dos personas que además hacen las compras. El 30 dice que la parte luminosa se lleva todo el crédito y la parte que la sostiene, ninguno, y que confundirse ahí es la manera más común de perder la llama.

El error típico son dos y los dos apagan. Uno es quemar todo rápido, la línea 4 del hexagrama: se enciende, se apaga, se descarta. Es la persona que arranca cinco cosas por mes con la misma intensidad y no termina ninguna, o el que rinde tanto que se funde. El otro es tapar el fuego por miedo a que moleste: no mostrar lo que hacés, apagarte para no incomodar, guardar la idea hasta que alguien más la tenga. El tercer camino está en el Dictamen y es mucho menos glamoroso que la llama: cuidá de la vaca. Ocupate de lo que sostiene la luz, con paciencia, todos los días. La claridad que dura no es la más intensa, es la que tiene con qué seguir ardiendo mañana.

En lo práctico, el hexagrama 30 suele aparecer cuando:

• Se te encendió una idea o un entusiasmo fuerte y no sabés cuánto va a durar.
• Estás rindiendo mucho y empezás a notar que te estás fundiendo.
• Entendiste algo importante y ahora tenés que sostenerlo en la práctica.
• Te apagás para no incomodar a los demás con lo que hacés bien.

You drew 30 and there is clarity in your situation: you understood something, an idea lit up, someone saw you, a project started to shine. The hexagram confirms the light and immediately asks the uncomfortable question: what is it attached to?

Fire does not hold itself up, and all of your present clarity depends on something concrete that feeds it. It may be a routine, an income, a relationship, a rested body, a team. If you do not know which, you now know what to find out this week.

Concretely: the huge enthusiasm for a project that exists thanks to a boring job that funds it. The inspiration that only turns up on the days you slept well. The intense bond resting on two people who also do the grocery shopping. 30 says the luminous part takes all the credit and the part holding it up takes none, and that confusing the two is the most common way to lose the flame.

The typical mistake comes in two versions and both put the fire out. The first is burning everything fast, line 4 of the hexagram: it flares up, dies down, is thrown away. That is the person who starts five things a month with the same intensity and finishes none, or the one who performs so hard they burn out. The second is smothering the fire so it will not bother anyone: not showing what you make, dimming yourself so as not to be inconvenient, keeping the idea until somebody else has it. The third way is in the Judgment and it is far less glamorous than the flame: care for the cow. Attend to what sustains the light, patiently, every day. The clarity that lasts is not the most intense one, it is the one with something to keep burning on tomorrow.

In practice, hexagram 30 tends to come up when:

• An idea or a strong enthusiasm lit up and you do not know how long it will last.
• You are performing at a high level and starting to notice you are burning out.
• You understood something important and now you have to sustain it in practice.
• You dim yourself so as not to make others uncomfortable with what you do well.

   Las huellas se cruzan en desorden. Si hay seriedad, no hay culpa.The footprints run crisscross. With seriousness, there is no fault.

   Es el primer momento del día, cuando todavía hay demasiadas impresiones y ninguna ordenada. Todo te parece importante y urgente: los mensajes, las ideas, las oportunidades. La línea no te pide que elijas bien todavía, te pide seriedad, que es otra cosa: parar diez minutos antes de arrancar y decidir qué vas a mirar hoy. El fuego recién encendido chisporrotea para todos lados, y ordenar esa dispersión es todo el trabajo de esta línea.

   It is the first moment of the day, when there are still too many impressions and none of them sorted. Everything looks important and urgent: the messages, the ideas, the opportunities. The line does not ask you to choose well yet, it asks for seriousness, which is a different thing: stopping for ten minutes before you start and deciding what you will look at today. A newly lit fire throws sparks everywhere, and ordering that scatter is the whole job of this line.

2. LíneaLine 2 — La luz amarillaYellow light

   Luz amarilla. Fortuna suprema.Yellow light. Supreme good fortune.

   El amarillo es en el I Ching el color del centro y de la tierra, y esta es la mejor línea del hexagrama. Describe la claridad del mediodía: ni tenue ni encandilante, en su punto justo. Aplicado a la vida es la persona que ve la situación con calma, sin exagerar ni minimizar, y que actúa desde ahí. Si te salió esta línea, confiá en tu lectura de lo que está pasando y no la corrijas hacia arriba ni hacia abajo por lo que digan.

   Yellow is the colour of the centre and of the earth in the I Ching, and this is the best line of the hexagram. It describes the clarity of noon: neither dim nor blinding, exactly at its point. Applied to life it is the person who sees a situation calmly, without exaggerating or minimising, and acts from there. If this line came up, trust your reading of what is happening and do not adjust it up or down for what other people say.

3. LíneaLine 3 — La luz del sol que se poneThe light of the setting sun

   A la luz del sol que se pone, unos golpean la olla y cantan, otros se lamentan por la vejez que llega. Desgracia.In the light of the setting sun, some beat the pot and sing, others lament the coming of old age. Misfortune.

   Un ciclo se está terminando y hay dos maneras de arruinarlo: la fiesta forzada que niega el final y el lamento que se instala. La línea muestra las dos y llama desgracia a las dos. En lo cotidiano es el que se compra la moto a los cincuenta para probar que no pasó el tiempo, y el que a los treinta ya habla como si todo lo bueno hubiera quedado atrás. Lo que corresponde en un atardecer es simple: mirarlo, cerrarlo y preparar la noche.

   A cycle is ending and there are two ways to ruin it: the forced party that denies the ending, and the lament that settles in. The line shows both and calls both misfortune. Everyday version: the person who buys the motorbike at fifty to prove time has not passed, and the one who at thirty already talks as if everything good were behind them. What a sunset calls for is simple: look at it, close it, and get the night ready.

4. LíneaLine 4 — Se enciende y se apagaIt flares and dies

   Su llegada es repentina: se enciende, se apaga, se descarta.Its coming is sudden: it flames up, dies down, is thrown away.

   La línea del incendio corto. Alguien aparece con una intensidad enorme, ocupa todo el espacio y en dos semanas no queda nada. Puede ser una persona, una idea, un puesto nuevo, una moda interna tuya. El texto es cortante porque el patrón lo es. Si te reconocés acá, la pregunta no es cómo tener más fuerza sino qué combustible tenías previsto: nadie sostiene un fuego que empezó sin leña juntada de antes.

   The line of the short blaze. Someone shows up with enormous intensity, fills all the space, and two weeks later there is nothing left. It might be a person, an idea, a new post, a private fad of your own. The text is curt because the pattern is. If you recognise yourself here, the question is not how to have more force but what fuel you had lined up: nobody sustains a fire that started without wood gathered beforehand.

   La línea más rara del libro: llanto y, sin embargo, fortuna. Describe el momento en que ves con claridad total lo que está en juego y eso te desarma. No es debilidad, es lucidez, y por eso trae suerte: el que llora acá es el que dejó de negar. En la práctica es la conversación en la que se te quiebra la voz y justo por eso el otro te escucha de verdad. Dejá que pase; después de esto se ve mejor.

   The strangest line in the book: weeping, and good fortune all the same. It describes the moment when you see with total clarity what is at stake and it undoes you. This is not weakness, it is lucidity, and that is why it brings luck: the one weeping here is the one who stopped denying. In practice it is the conversation where your voice breaks and precisely because of that the other person really hears you. Let it happen; afterwards you see better.

   El rey lo envía a poner orden. Conviene abatir a los cabecillas y perdonar a los que solo seguían. Sin culpa.The king sends him to restore order. It furthers to strike the leaders and spare those who merely followed. No blame.

   La claridad llega a su punto máximo y sirve para discriminar con precisión: la línea manda cortar la raíz del problema y no castigar a todo el mundo por igual. En la vida real es despedir a quien envenena el equipo sin desarmar el equipo, terminar con una costumbre sin culpar a la familia entera, borrar la aplicación en vez de odiarte por usarla. El fuego bien usado no arrasa el campo, quema exactamente lo que hay que quemar.

   Clarity reaches its maximum and serves to discriminate precisely: the line orders you to cut the root of the problem and not to punish everyone equally. In real life it is letting go of the person poisoning the team without dismantling the team, ending a habit without blaming your whole family, deleting the app instead of hating yourself for using it. Fire used well does not raze the field, it burns exactly what needs burning.
