Astronómicamente, nada le pasa a Mercurio: su órbita es más rápida que la nuestra y, cuando nos "pasa" por dentro, desde acá parece ir marcha atrás, como un tren que adelanta a otro. Dura unas tres semanas y ocurre tres (a veces cuatro) veces por año.

Astrológicamente, Mercurio representa la comunicación, el pensamiento, los contratos y los desplazamientos cortos. Su retroceso aparente se interpreta como un momento para re: revisar, releer, reconsiderar, reconectar. La tradición no dice que todo salga mal; dice que lo que se empieza apurado tiende a necesitar corrección después.

Astronomically, nothing happens to Mercury: its orbit is faster than ours and, when it "passes" us on the inside, from here it appears to go backwards, like a train overtaking another. It lasts about three weeks and happens three (sometimes four) times a year.

Astrologically, Mercury represents communication, thinking, contracts and short trips. Its apparent reversal is read as a moment for re: review, reread, reconsider, reconnect. The tradition does not say everything goes wrong; it says what is started in a hurry tends to need correction later.

• No pospongas lo importante por miedo. Firmar, mudarte o empezar un trabajo durante Mercurio retrógrado no condena nada; solo pide leer dos veces.

• Back things up. Not because of the planet: because it is a good moment to remember.
• Reread before sending. Emails, contracts, emotionally loaded messages.
• Confirm times and addresses. The late train is not astrological, but the reminder helps.
• Pick up pending conversations. That is the best use of the period: returning to what was left halfway.
• Do not postpone the important out of fear. Signing, moving or starting a job during Mercury retrograde dooms nothing; it only asks you to read twice.

Porque durante esas semanas prestamos atención a lo que normalmente dejamos pasar. El mail mal enviado, la computadora lenta y el malentendido con una amiga ocurren todo el año; en Mercurio retrógrado los contamos. Eso no le quita valor al período: un calendario que te obliga a revisar tres veces al año es útil aunque el motivo sea simbólico.

Lo interesante no es si el planeta "hace" algo. Es que vos tenés una forma particular de comunicarte, de malentender y de apurarte, y esa forma es la que se nota cuando el período la amplifica. Esa forma no cambia con los tránsitos: está en tu momento de nacimiento.

Because during those weeks we pay attention to what we usually let slide. The wrongly sent email, the slow computer and the misunderstanding with a friend happen all year; in Mercury retrograde we count them. That does not diminish the period: a calendar that forces you to review three times a year is useful even if the reason is symbolic.

The interesting part is not whether the planet "does" something. It is that you have a particular way of communicating, of misunderstanding and of hurrying, and that way is what shows when the period amplifies it. That way does not change with transits: it is in your moment of birth.
